In 2017, Mercer County consolidated the offices of Consumer Affairs / Weights & Measures in an effort to improve government efficiency.
Consumer Affairs deals with consumer complaints relating to home improvement contractors, used-car dealers and other business entities that may be in violation of N.J.S.A. 56:8-1 et seq. (The Consumer Fraud Act). All staff members are trained, have passed all courses required by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office and are certified.
Consumer Affairs cannot:
• Act as a lawyer or handle a complaint when a lawyer is involved.
• Recommend a business, product or service.
• Investigate or resolve complaints from consumers against other consumers.
• Take action if a complaint has involved court action or a court decision.
