(TRENTON) – Freeholder Pasquale "Pat" Colavita joins students from the Mercer County Technical Schools - Assunpink location who are competing in this year's U Got Brains Champion Schools Program presented by the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey.

The students are tasked with producing a peer-to-peer safe driving campaign to be showcased with 57 other New Jersey high schools later in the year. Past winners and participants have received cash prizes and have raised funds for driving simulator equipment for their schools.

The main goal of the program is to increase student awareness of safe driving practices and to reduce the number of teen motor vehicle accidents, which is the number one cause of death and disability in teenagers. According to the website, funding is provided by the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety, funding sponsor New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company and platinum sponsors, Allstate Insurance and DriveSafer.
