Trenton - The Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders honored a group of Mercer County High School graduates who were recently awarded the 2015 Freeholder's Scholarship to attend Mercer County Community College.

Davis Beaston (Hopewell Valley), Stephanie Candelaria (West Windsor Plainsboro South), Gabriela Gates (Steinert), Joseph Johnson (Ewing), Marium Khan (Lawrence), Dylan Otter (Hamilton West), and Glanisha Franco-Santiago (Trenton Central West), attended a presentation that took place during the Freeholders' Formal Meeting on Thursday, July 23.

The goal of the Freeholders' scholarship is to encourage Mercer County students to attend Mercer County Community College. In doing so, the scholarship program provides financial assistance to high school seniors who possess a minimum GPA of 2.8 and have plans to attend MCCC in the fall. This year, the Board was able to award 13 scholarships.

The scholarship winners were chosen by their respective high school guidance counselors and will receive $1,000 for their first year at Mercer and a second $1,000 will be awarded to those students who successfully complete their first year.

"Mercer County Community College has earned a well-deserved reputation for offering a quality education. The transfer programs offered at Mercer are gateways to some of the finest 4-year colleges in the nation," said Freeholder Ann Cannon. "I wish this year's winners continued success in all their future academic endeavors."
