It is with great sadness that the Mercer County Commission on the Status of Women has canceled its annual awards reception rescheduled for Tuesday, June 30, 2020, from its original March 31 date. At the awards reception, Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes and members of the Mercer County Commission on the Status of Women were to present awards for the Woman of Achievement and the Young Woman of Achievement. The Woman of Achievement Award was established to honor a Mercer County resident who volunteers her time to make the county a better place to live, raise a family, and work. The Young Woman of Achievement Award honors a high school student for her outstanding volunteer work within the county.
Due to the current restrictions, the venue will not be able to accommodate an event of this size. With all the uncertainties and because the event was already postponed, the commission had to make the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event.
Please stay tuned for a virtual video to celebrate these wonderful women who give back so much to Mercer County. Until that video is available, the event program will inform you of the many ways the Mercer County community benefits from the tireless work of the recipients: Halina Bustin, Denise Daniels, and Regina Thompson Jenkins, who were selected to receive a the Woman of Achievement Award; and Mehar Bajwa, Namiaya Kelton, and Lanae Lopez, who were selected to receive a Young Woman of Achievement Award.
