Mercer County Weights and Measures is working for you
In Mercer County, as in other state and local jurisdictions throughout the nation, Weights and Measures inspectors operate behind the scenes, out of the public eye, doing important work that protects consumers and ensures a level playing field for businesses.
“Consumers need to be confident that they’re getting the most value for their dollar, whether they’re shopping for groceries, buying a cord of firewood or filling their gas tanks,” said Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes. “Our inspectors are out in the field every day making sure that happens. They’re on your side.”
The Office of Weights and Measures is responsible for ensuring that all commercial weighing and measuring devices are tested and inspected for accuracy, and meet Federal guidelines for specifications and tolerances. Its core mission is to protect consumers from unscrupulous business practices and ensure equity in the marketplace.
In Mercer County alone, Weights and Measures inspects more than 5,000 devices a year.
“We are proud in Mercer County of the job our Weights and Measures team has done and continues to do in our communities, ensuring that people get what they pay for,” Mr. Hughes said.
